There's a lot going for this flash

First off, i'd like to say that your animation skills are among, if not the best on all of newgrounds. Your story-telling elements are abstract at best, but your creative artistic styles keep the flash intresting at all times. There are certaintly flaws to this flash (Using the american beauty soundtrack is straight up cliche), it's merely nitpicking. Amazing job, and i'd love to see your future work

AloneInTheDark responds:

Thanks! But u also can understand that it is impossible to put in a soundtrack that simply everyone will like. And I dont feel Thomas Newman gets the respect he earns. Usually movie soundtracks are played a billion times until everybody starts hating them. Newman is relatively unknown and has such awesome work (e.g download his six feet under theme) that he deserves to be in the spotlight too.

holy crap

Well, seeing that the flash had a 4.1x rating, i wasn't quite sure what to expect. Seeing it, i can understand why it was popular, but ultimately, can't agree.

Your flash is melodrama, plain and simple. It's slopply handled, completely ludicrous, and yet, most of the NG'er audience can relate to it. I'd be lying if i didn't admit that i would have certaintly given this movie a 5 had i seen it three or four years ago.

However, there's quite a bit about your narrative style which could use improvements. Your dialog between charcters is entirely unrealisitic. Your drawings and animation could use work, and the entire concept of the flash is ridiclious.

Now, it's not to say that the flash is bad. On the other hand, for what you attempted to do, create a movie which could appeal to the 12-15 year old crowd on newgrounds, you did terribly well. I can imagine without difficulty an emo boy crying while watching this. However, your impact is lost upon an older audience. You show potentional in this flash, and with some refinments, perhaps some colaborative script writing, you could put together something really great. But for now, it stands in my mind as a decent effort, but medicore flash animation.

AligatorHead responds:

oh

Just awkward

I was a big fan of some of the older tommorow's nobodies, but there was something missing. The dialog just doesn't have any flair to it, and while perhaps this was somewhat the intentional (as implied by the last 30 seconds of the flash), it just didn't work for me. Sure, there were a few things that made me chuckle, but there just wasn't any flow to the script. One could understandably think that the script was written while under some sort of drug/alcohol use, and not really revised in any way. The animation is just as medicore as usual, and the recordings were fairly good, but at that level, it's just style without any sort of substance. All of this would be forgivable if the movie was funny, but it just isn't. The dick's running gag was just confusing, and the jew jokes just plain weren't funny. Everything feels like it's some elaborate inside joke and while it may be, you can't expect people on the outside to understand them.

Mark this under the recent trend of disapointing sequals on newgrounds

Tomorrows-Nobody responds:

Yes. I already addressed this with the Author's Comments. The script was written haphazardly, and not really revised. I think it does, however, deserve more than a 3/10 based on some other good elements in there. They may be overshadowed, but there's kind of a lot to this, even if it isn't really flowing. You have to be in the right mood.

Rather well-done flash
A newgrounds poet is rare
Much less an adept one

goatasaur responds:

Your praise is enjoyed.
I thank you for your kind words
and the time you took.

Great job

This is certaintly one of the more intriquing flash movies that i've seen on the site, the colaboration theme hasn't really been attempted outside of clocks, and it's nice to see someone else do something like this.

And don't worry about the daily feature thing, i doubt anyone else noticed, but the same thing happened to perfect kirby 3.2 earlier in the week, and it got it the next day.

T0MMY responds:

We'll see if this gets the Daily Feature for the next day :)
You'll notice we made it on Top 20 of this week, so it'll be strange to be caught in the middle of the past and future of Newgrounds.
Thanks for writing.

Damn

You've really got some mad lightwave skillz. I've played around with most of the major 3d animation programs before, and even in my many hours of tinkering, i haven't even come close to the works that you showed off in that piece. Great job, i look forward to seeing your future works

RenegadeClock responds:

Thanx, I've been using Lightwave for over 4 years now and there's still a lot I don't know. I've focused on just models, surfacing and lighting. Now I need to move on to animation. More to come!

While perhaps i'm short sighted...

I still think that this is just silly. I understand the message behind the staff that protected this, however, newgrounds and the portal in general have evolved beyond a point of which material like this is consitered the attractions of newgrounds. I still remember the young days of newgrounds, when assassin was born, and that epic day that the portal was first created. I can see the innocent childish humor in this, and of course, don't compare it terms of domestic violence like some other reviewers, i just don't feel that we've lost sight of newgrounds at all. The site has simply evolved to a point of where we've moved beyond things like this.

cornbeef responds:

this flash isnt supposed to represent evolution in newgrounds taste and espectancy, altho i understand what u mean. this flash is meant to give ppl a quick laugh without having to wait a long time. makes it very convenient in a way. im sure most ppl laughed even longer then they took the time to watch this. i know i did. sometimes sticking to the basics can be the most rewarding. that meaning, even tho this got terd of the week i am getting many reviews saying that they really enjoyed this. that is rewarding enough to me that so many ppl enjoyed my short, joke, of a creation. TY for your review

A flawed, but intresting film

Well, above the technical levels, this certaintly is a worthwhile piece of flash. While your attention to detail seems to be a bit lacking (Little things stand out, like the shell casing flying into the side of the gun, no animation on the steering wheel while the charcter is driving, the bullet wound simply folding upwards when in reverse, etc.) you still manage to create a compelling story, and intrest the viewer. Now, i don't expect this edition to get very high scores simply because you don't show an talent for animation, but that can improve in time (How did you animate it, anyway? It looks like you drew it frame by frame)

I would love to see you put some more work into this series, given improved animation, i could see a future version of this easily being a daily feature

TaKEitOrLUMPiT responds:

Yeah everything woulda been nicer if i coulda changed the fram rate! but i do like to draw very detailed. Thanks!

The text speed is fine

Thanks for the fast text speed, everyone else has it up for way too godamned long, and no, i'm not being scarcastic

izax-1 responds:

golden review award! im not being sarcastic. ;p

Could you please put in a pre-loader?

Either this is just a big joke, or the thing is simply refusing to load, the same animation has been running for 10 minutes and i'm on broadband. Could you please add a different pre-loader?

FourStar responds:

its a big joke

Itz be tyme for the ghettomastah!
